Engineering
The Fluid Dynamics Research Laboratory is located in the department of mechanical engineering at the University of Texas - Pan American, Edinburg, TX. It is equipped with state-of-the-art diagnostic and testing facilities that include a jet facility and optical flow diagnostics equipment. The main areas of reseach are advanced propulsion, flow control of high speed flows and aero-optics. The focus of the research is both basic and applied in nature. Some of the research projects include development of flow control techniques to reduce aero-optical aberrations in high-speed flows, thrust augmentation and noise reduction of pulsed jets and development of robust optical flow diagnostic techniques such as stereoscopic Particle Image Velocimetry (3D-PIV) and Background Oriented Schlieren (BOS).
